The Lawyers for Poland Association welcomes U.S. President realDonaldTrump’s decision to halt funding for NGO projects in Poland, including TdKonstytucjaPL initiative. We view this as a step toward greater national sovereignty and a reduction in the influence of external actors on Poland’s political and social landscape.
For some time, we have observed how foreign funds are used to support initiatives that do not necessarily align with the interests of Polish society. Foreign-funded organizations frequently implement programs rooted in a specific political ideology, raising valid concerns about their objectivity and underlying purpose.
TdKonstytucjaPL, despite its stated educational aims, has effectively become a platform for promoting a particular worldview – one often at odds with the values held by a significant portion of Polish society. Restricting funding for such initiatives fosters a more balanced public debate in which all perspectives can be freely expressed, without the dominance of a single, foreign-funded narrative.
We emphasize that decisions regarding the funding of NGOs in Poland should primarily rest with Polish institutions and citizens. Through democratic mechanisms and private contributions, Poles – not foreign governments or international foundations advancing their own interests – should determine which initiatives merit support.
We hope this decision will encourage NGOs to enhance transparency regarding their funding sources and seek greater support from domestic donors. This shift would reinforce their independence and credibility in serving the genuine interests of Polish society.
